Germaine Maehler grew up in the automobile industry. Her father – who immigrated with Germaine’s mother from Germany to the United States in 1955 – owned car dealerships for the extent of his career. “My dad started out as a Porsche mechanic and eventually opened up his own dealership,” recalled Germaine. Her father’s first dealership sold Porsche and Audi cars and took the family to Tucson, AZ for several years. “We came back to Thousand Oaks, CA where my dad opened a Volkswagen/Fiat/Jaguar dealership,” Germaine noted.
She worked at her father’s Thousand Oaks dealership for five years before taking a fleet assistant position in North Hollywood at a Toyota dealership. “Most of my education came from working for my dad at his car dealership,” said Germaine. “He taught me great work ethics and taught me all the ins and outs of the car business.” Watching her father at work paid off for Germaine. Within her first year of work as fleet assistant at North Hollywood Toyota, Germaine was promoted to the role of fleet manager for the dealership.
While in Los Angeles, Germaine frequently traveled south to visit her brother, a United States Navy pilot stationed in San Diego. “I always enjoyed taking the train to San Diego to visit him,” shared Germaine. “I eventually decided to take a fleet manager position in San Diego.” She settled into the Scripps Ranch community in 1989. “I enjoy living in Scripps Ranch because it is a family-oriented community and centrally located to everything” said Germaine.
Today, Germaine is the fleet manager for Frank Toyota, located in National City. “I sell and lease cars to private customers, which come from referrals and repeat customers,” described Germaine. “I also sell to credit union members, auto brokers… and help manage the inventory and allocation for the dealership.”
Throughout her career, Germaine has been recognized as a Top 50 Sales Professional in the nation over the last 30 years and as one of the top 14 salespeople in Southern California. “The most rewarding part of my career is making the car-buying experience a smooth and pleasant experience for my clients,” shared Germaine.
In her downtime, Germaine enjoys visiting her mother in Temecula and traveling with her daughter. One piece of career advice Germaine would offer to readers is, “to go to work and focus on what you want to get accomplished. Have a great attitude, and always remember to smile each and every day.”
