Gifts for Young Cancer Patients
During this past holiday season, District Five Councilmember Mark Kersey and Scripps Ranch families united with the Becky’s Gift Toy Drive at University of the California San Diego (UCSD) Moores Cancer Center to deliver more than 200 toys for children ages 1 to 16 who underwent cancer treatment.
Becky’s Gift began in 2009 when Scripps Ranch residents Becky Walton and Christie Jackson witnessed the difficulties of patients not fully experiencing the holidays while undergoing cancer treatment.
“It (was) my pleasure to partner with grassroots toy drives like Becky’s Gift to collect and donate toys, making Christmas a little better for these families,” said Kersey.
Becky’s Gift collected more than 1,500 toys this past holiday season, which were distributed among three cancer centers – UCSD Moores Cancer Center, The Oncology Associates of San Diego, and South County Hematology and Oncology Center.
