The Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps will be hosting the annual Poway Days Parade this year, echoing the theme of Rotary International: Be the Inspiration. “We hope that this theme inspires people to see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change; across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves,” said Karen Herreros, the club’s president.

Shelley Zimmerman, a Scripps Ranch resident and newly retired police chief, was the first woman to serve as SDPD Chief of Police, and her tenure of 35 years set a service record for sworn female officers. Shelley was named as grand marshal of the parade.

Born in Cleveland, Shelley graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in criminal justice. She joined the SDPD in 1982 and was appointed as Chief of Police in 2014. Shelley is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy #241.

The parade will be held Sept. 8. with more than 100 guests expected to attend. For more information visit www.powaydaysparade.org.
