Outstanding Teen

Scripps Ranch High School junior Katherine Chicca was recently crowned Miss San Diego’s Outstanding Teen 2019. The Miss San Diego’s Outstanding Teen competition is a local preliminary to the Miss California’s Outstanding Teen and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competitions. Contestants participate in five phases of competition, including private interview, talent, lifestyle and fitness, on-stage question, and evening wear. “It was such a great experience,” Katherine said. “The program has helped me come out of my shell and speak about causes that I am passionate about.”

“I’m so excited to know that I am able to work within the community and for my platform.”

Katherine is a Junior Olympic competitive gymnast, training over 20 hours per week, in addition to being active in her church and taking honors and AP courses in school. “Winning the title felt like a dream!” Katherine said. “I worked hard and it felt good to see my work pay off. I’m so excited to know that I am able to work within the community and for my platform.” She will be advocating on behalf of UNICEF as her platform during her year as the titleholder, and will also become an ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, one of the Miss America Organization’s largest partnerships.

Katherine will move on to represent San Diego at the Miss California’s Outstanding Teen competition in June. For more information visit www.misscalifornia.org/teen.
