SRHS Theater Puts on The Great Gatsby

With the crisp, fall air turning into the winds of Jack Frost nipping at your nose, why not seek shelter in the Falcon Playhouse? The Falcon Playhouse will be performing The Great Gatsby in November, and is encouraging all of you old sports to come out and see it!

The Great Gatsby, originally written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, takes place in 1922 on Long Island. One of the main characters, Daisy Fay Buchanan, is played by senior Lauren Kogelman. “This is my first time playing a role as large and a character as complex as Daisy Buchanan,” Kogelman said. She’s excited to perform as Daisy, and is happy that she has such a “hard-working, dedicated, talented, spirited [and] creative” team behind her for support.

Junior Annelise McCullough, who will play Ms. Kee, also commented on the story’s complexity. “I love how complicated all of the characters are and how complex the storyline is. I love how there is no real protagonist, and instead that everyone is morally grey,” she added.

One of the favorite parts of acting many have is the ability to tell stories from a different era, time, and place. Senior Dylan Darwish plays George Wilson, and remarked, “It’s been a blast to get into character from the 1920s and really experience that time period.” Darwish enjoys how acting allows one to become someone they normally aren’t.

The Great Gatsby will run at the Falcon Playhouse on Nov. 14 and 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. with another showing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 pre-sale and $10 at the door.
